Past Perfect / Present Tense:

Contemporary Art In Dialogue With The Past

The Past Perfect / Present Tense exhibition brings together the work of seven international artists who explore the dynamic interplay between representations of culture in the past as portrayed through a contemporary lens. For each artist, the past informs and challenges the present, each creating artwork that draws on and reinterprets the rich material of past genres, masterworks, and concepts to create a dialogue between what has come before and the moment we are in now. Art references include revisited techniques, styles, materials, and ideologies that inform and enrich contemporary narratives.

Marie-Ange Hoda Ackad

Marie-Ange Hoda Ackad is a Canadian visual artist whose multimedia practice spans oil painting, pastel, and collage. Her work investigates the visual languages of both art history and mass culture, examining how representation shapes our understandings of identity, power, and belonging. Drawing from classical compositions and live-model studies, she reimagines historical artworks through a contemporary lens, centering figures and narratives often excluded from the canon.
