Recently I was looking through my high school yearbook. Each one of the graduates had to write a statement for the yearbook. Mine was “Never underestimate the power of a woman.” So very early on I was totally aware of the importance of female empowerment. I was very involved in sports and my mother told me I should never beat a boy. I was in the middle of the final match of a ping-pong tournament. My opponent was a boy. During the match, I remembered what my mother said and completely ignored it and won the tournament. That was an especially wonderful achievement for me . . . which I never forgot!
