Through his striking oil on canvas paintings, Bogdan Luca awakens powerful feelings of humanity. Luca’s paintings teeter-totter on the cusp of the digital and tactile realms. Riveting distorted figures and fragmented collage elements create a fabricated "illusion of reality.” Reality skewed by our constant overexposure to content and eye candy.
“Within the language of painting, I reflect on the confusion produced by our exposure to an overwhelming amount of visual information, from which it is difficult to create meaning.”
Luca’s works are reminiscent of faint memories from personal observations in both his waking life and dream state. Memories blurred by almost somber-like blues and purples. Faint as a consequence of staring into electronic screens for too long. Luca compels viewers to gaze beyond the thick haze of ambiguous images and question their own understanding of reality. All things considered, “reality is fragile, unclear and misleading.”
