ALBERT DÉPAS
I believe artwork should entertain the. emotions, educate the mind, and enlighten the soul. Therefore, through the creative process, I am committed to enriching a shared experience in our collective consciousness.
— Albert Dépas

Albert Dépas is a Haitian-American visual artist, poet, and educator. His interest in art and urban planning began in high school and continued through his university studies, where he first explored architecture and studio art. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in Visual Studies, followed by master’s degrees in Special Education and International Education.

In 2019, Dépas became a New York City Teaching Fellow. He worked as a special education and visual art teacher with middle and high school students and has also taught and lectured in studio art at Boricua College in New York City.

Dépas’s artistic practice explores the human psyche, focusing on ideas of self, identity, and consciousness. His work reflects on both the individual and the collective, examining how identity is shaped by personal experience and social structures.

His artwork has been exhibited widely, and his poetry has appeared in several journals. He is the author of Metamorphosis of Joy, a collection of poems, and The High: An Artistic Exploration of Everyday Experiences on the High Line, NYC. He also developed “fessings,” a self coaching method designed to help individuals resolve inner conflicts and work toward their full potential.
