MODEST & FURIOUS
I aim to unravel the intricate tapestry of memory, shedding light on its complexities and
revealing the profound impact it has on our personal and collective experiences. By diving
into the realms of memory and language, I evoke introspection and spark reflections about
the delicate interplay between human and non-human communication systems in our ever
evolving world.
— Modest and Furious

Modest & Furious, born in 1957 in Pergola, Province of Pesaro-Urbino, Italy, spent his formative years in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. He attended the European School of Luxembourg and later pursued a degree in Chemistry at Bologna University, Bologna, Italy. Continuing his academic journey, he obtained a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Parma, Italy. In 1988, he joined the Department of Microbiology at Stanford University, CA as a Post Doctoral Fellow, before returning to Bologna in 1990 to join the local University' Department of Microbiology. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to virology, with a primary focus on herpes viruses.

Despite his scientific pursuits, Modest & Furious maintained a deep fascination with various forms of art, particularly visual arts. In his spare time, he consistently practiced drawing and watercolors. The need to nurture his creativity, embrace his manual skills, and find expressive freedom has always been important to him. After spending long hours engrossed in scientific texts, he often felt a compelling urge to pause, take up a pencil or brush, and let his mind roam freely, producing art after absorbing knowledge.

His inspiration derives from the intricate complexities and contrasting aspects of the human condition, as well as the fascinating mechanisms by which our memory processes and manages these experiences. Presently, he considers himself a retired scientist and a self-taught artist, with a recent interest in digital painting. Through his artwork, he aims to convey political and aesthetic messages that may not be immediately apparent, requiring viewers to actively seek them out, much like one does with impactful or nostalgic memories.

He finds solace and creative stimulation in solitude and serene environments, often accompanied by music. It is within these tranquil moments that he immerses himself in his artistic process, nurturing his vision and bringing his creative ideas to life.
