SARAH PLATT
As an artist I like to combine what I learned and developed from each craft I studied.
I started in jewelry in middle school and learned about design. This led me to want to learn about pottery and then painting where I developed a style of layering and mixing colors.
— Sarah Platt

As a vibrant and imaginative young child, Sarah Platt was always immersed in the world of creativity, expressing herself through drawings and playing with a myriad of colors and textiles. Her artistic journey took a more formal turn at the age of 8 when she delved into the realm of pottery.

At the age of 15, Sarah received valuable mentorship from her grandfather, the accomplished painter George Platt. Under his guidance, she learned the art of observing a subject and translating its essence onto paper. George became her first painting teacher, and she dedicated countless days to observing and studying his distinctive style. His encouragement fueled her passion, pushing her to persist in the world of art.

During her formative years, Sarah also explored the realm of video production at Hockaday School in Texas. Here, she honed her skills in editing, script development, and filmmaking. This diverse skill set laid a solid foundation for her future endeavors in the art world.

In 1993, Sarah Platt took a significant step in her education, enrolling at the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) with a major in video/film. The rich and dynamic environment at SCAD played a crucial role in shaping her artistic perspective.

In 2003, Sarah further expanded her expertise by attending the Penland School of Craft. Here, she immersed herself in the art of Glass Casting under the mentorship of renowned artists Stephen Paul Day and Sibylle Peretti. This experience added a new dimension to her artistic repertoire, pushing the boundaries of her creativity.

From 2008 to 2011, Sarah Platt dedicated her efforts to the establishment of her art in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. During this period, she focused on the study of sculpture and painting, further refining her skills and deepening her connection with the artistic world. Sarah's journey is a testament to her unwavering commitment to artistic exploration and continuous growth in the ever-evolving landscape of the visual arts.
