RICHARD MCWHERTER
I think of photographs as dreams made tangible. They
represent a physical extension of a memory for me.
— Richard Mcwherter

Richard McWherter is a visual artist specializing in photography and digital art. In his artistic pursuit, he views photographs as tangible manifestations of dreams, serving as a physical extension of memories. McWherter aims to go beyond merely capturing a moment in time and space; his ambition is to convey the emotions experienced in that particular instance. His ultimate goal is to guide the viewer's gaze through an image, creating an effect similar to how a storyteller weaves a compelling tale.

From his early school days, McWherter has been dedicated to learning, creating, exhibiting, and teaching photography as a crucial medium in visual art. His fascination with the influential power of photographs, particularly those in magazines like Life and Look, sparked his interest in how images could shape public opinions on a national or global scale.

McWherter's artistic journey began with a scholarship that granted him the opportunity to attend the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts during his high school years. Since then, his work has been featured in numerous regional, national, and international exhibitions. Additionally, his art has been reproduced in national magazines dedicated to fine art photography, showcasing the widespread recognition of his creative contributions.

He exhibited at the international Biennial of Fine Art & Documentary Photography during the Barcelona Foto Biennale at the Foto Nostrum Gallery in Barcelona, Spain (winning their Honorable Mention Award). Also in 2021 his work was shown at Kentucky's prestigious Louisville Photo Biennial at the Arts Alliance of Indiana in New Albany. His artwork has also appeared in international juried art and photography exhibitions both here and abroad, including New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, London, Glasgow, Paris, Budapest, Barcelona, Venice, and Rome.

His commercial clients have included both regional and national corporations and institutions, as well as freelance assignments for family portraiture and groups. Currently, he works exclusively on self assignments for galleries and book projects. His book projects are represented by his entrepreneurial venture, Walkwood Publishing.

My work champions some of the hidden and temporal natural treasures on this planet and hopefully challenges everyone to be actively engaged in protecting our surroundings. Promoting this understanding of our world, and our place in it, will help us make sure it is here for generations to come
