Alina Karo

Alina Karo

For so many of us, fashion is baffling.  For many of us, fashion feels an ever-changing monster of consumerism, demanding an identity with an ideal that is perfect and permanently out of reach.   The artwork of Alina Karo feels like a direct protest to that.  The photos hold the same elegant poses of fashion photography, but with the grotesque, with the anti-sexual, and with a stunning disregard for what is expected.  If this is protest, we stand next to Alina, not just because of what she is saying through her work but because of the intriguing, beautiful, dexterity with which she is able to say it.
